Michigan Automated Scale System

The UM/GM Advanced Battery Coalition for Drivetrains (ABCD), headed by Professor Wei Lu at the University of Michigan, researches battery technologies for improving electric vehicles. In the development of a novel battery separator technology, they must experiment with many different formulations of chemical solutions, requiring the accurate measurement of the masses of different chemicals. This has proven to be a bottleneck in the research process. Thus, we have been tasked with designing, building, and testing a small and cost-effective machine to automatically measure and dispense batches of different powdered chemicals.
