The objective of the project is to improve/optimize fuel efficiency and/or minimize de-rate mode in large diesel powertrains. The specific target powertrain is the 13 liter Max-Force engine family coupled with the Eaton 10 speed Ultra-Shift automated manual transmission.
Optimizing fuel economy is based upon:
- Miles / gallon diesel fuel;
- Miles / gallon diesel fuel and emissions fuel (fluid economy);
- Pound miles / gallon;
- Dollars / mile.
The overall approach is to use GPS input to determine current location of the vehicle. Based upon geographic location, PCM and TCM inputs will precondition the engine to minimize the likelihood of entering de-rate mode and to optimize fuel economy.
