The tracking drone provides situational awareness to personnel on the ground. With a pre-programmed mission, the drone will fly to various checkpoints and identify objects at the checkpoint using image detection processes. Information relating to those objects will then be relayed back to the user. Additionally, the drone will have an operating camera for user control. The drone will operate in two modes: a pre-programmed flight pattern and a computer vision mode that can track lines and physical objects on the ground to determine path; such as painted lines on a roadway.
The team will use a hobby off-the-shelf drone and modify to meet the requirements.
The project will require integration of a control board, gps, wifi, and video system at the drone level. At the user level, a program is required to plan a flight pattern, control the drone, and to receive the video feed.
Modify an off-the-shelf drone with camera, video system, and control module. The drone should be able to fly a pre-programmed flight pattern and identify objects on the ground at checkpoints via an onboard camera and image detection hardware/software. The drone should also be operable in a computer vision mode where the flight path of the drone will follow lines or objects on the ground, such as a road.
