Driver Seat Solutions for Reduced Mobility Drivers
The General Motors (GM) Accessibility Center of Excellence seeks a prototype device to help limited-mobility drivers, including wheelchair users, enter and exit a Chevrolet Equinox comfortably, safely, and quickly. Prioritizing accessibility in vehicles removes barriers to transport for people with limited mobility, enabling users to exercise more independence in their daily lives. GM’s efforts to provide mobility solutions helps them to achieve their goal “to be the most inclusive company in the world.” Our device should be mounted within the existing driver seating compartment. The student team is expected to manufacture a full-sized prototype to demonstrate the design’s feasibility.
