Ally Insurance is a leading provider of automobile-related insurance, vehicle maintenance and reinsurance products, and services for automobile dealers and their customers. The business focuses on developing and maintaining robust and lasting relationships developed directly with our dealers. By partnering with them, we are best able to offer them comprehensive solutions for their business, and valuable products and services to consumers.

Students on this project team will design an Android mobile app that will empower customers to quickly and efficiently file an insurance claim.

All students who join the Ally team and who meet the requirements listed below are guaranteed a Summer Internship at the Ally Corporate Headquarters in downtown Detroit. The summer internship is guaranteed but is NOT required to join this MDP project team

 

 Requirements to receive the summer internship offer:
1) U.S. Citizen with unrestricted ability to work in the US
2) Successful completion of a background check and drug test
3) Minimum GPA (3.0)
4) Has personal, reliable transportation to the Ally Headquarters in downtown Detroit

 

Students who receive an offer letter to join this team will also receive a formal offer letter from Ally for the internship, which will include a competitive hourly rate of pay (approximately $17.50 regardless of year or major)

 

Internship Dates: May 22 – August 11
40 hours per week
Closed for 4th of July Holiday

Students who successfully match to this project team will be required to sign the following two documents in January 2017:

I am a Lecturer at the University of Michigan. This semester, I am teaching EECS 280: Programming and Introductory Data Structures. I am currently doing research with the Computer Languages and Systems Software group at Lawrence Berkeley Lab. My work involves programming models, program analysis, languages, and compilers for parallel computing.

Director of Analytics & Data Management
Kirsten Elsworth is the Director of Analytics & Data Management for the Insurance Division of Ally Financial. She started her career as an actuarial intern, trading in math books for a love of data. With a BS in Applied Technology from Eastern Michigan University, Kirsten has been able to apply the rigor of her mathematics and data management background, with a practical, logical approach to solve various problems across the organization. Her team would tell you that she is the self-proclaimed, ‘World’s Greatest Analyst’, as she thoroughly enjoys the moments when she gets to dig-in and help solve a tough problem. She has designed and implemented multiple reporting and data warehouse solutions, including a $12M Global Data Warehouse. In her current role, Kirsten acts as the Insurance Business Lead for Data Governance, while continuing to grow an analytics team that collaborates across all areas of the organization.

Executive Vice President of Operations
Angie Tuglus is Executive Vice President of Operations at Ally Insurance.  She leads claims, loss inspections, collections, product delivery, fixed operations consulting, customer service, analytics and technology governance.  Angie is an expert at delivering large-scale cross-functional change initiatives, spanning startup to Fortune 10 companies.  At Ally, she successfully built and deployed a new global technology platform that included a core transactional system, financial system, data warehouse, and organizational change management to support business in 25 countries.  Following that, she led the successful design and launch of the new Ally Premier Protection vehicle service contract and customer experience in early 2015.  Over the past 2 years, she has been driving a cultural transformation across Ally Insurance, making Innovation the new normal and establishing new businesses such as Fixed Operations Consulting and Direct to Consumer.  Angie holds a BS in Engineering from Northwestern University and an MBA from Duke University.  She began her career in technology startups, and prior to Ally worked at Ford Motor Company.

Project Coordinator – Insurance Operations
Lauren Redd is the Project Coordinator for the Analytics and Data Management Team at Ally Insurance. She ensures the appropriate stakeholders are engaged to facilitate project requirements are completed in an efficient and timely manner. Lauren began her career at Ally 2 years ago in a Dealer Products and Services rotational position. During her time at Ally, Lauren has served on many special projects that were implemented to launch new products, increase revenues, and build new customer relationships. Lauren has actively supported efforts needed from Insurance Operations Product Configuration, Data Governance and Direct to Consumer Management teams. Lauren holds a BA Finance Degree from Michigan State University. Lauren’s professional career includes experiences in both Automotive and Banking Industry of Financial Services. Prior to joining Ally, Lauren worked for Comerica Bank.
